What Is Vehicle Detailing? Car Detailing is an extremely thorough cleaning, polishing and waxing of a vehicle, to produce a showroom quality level of detail. There are three main areas to a detail. These are :- Cleaning- Polishing -Protecting
Cleaning Refers to removing all foreign objects from the external surfaces of the vehicle. This can’t be done just through ‘basic’ washing. When we wash your vehicle high quality products and equipment is used throughout the whole process. To start with the vehicle is rinsed and then soaked with Snow Foam. This is a concetrated product that works on the dirt that is on the vehicle and makes it easier to then rinse off with the pressure washer. The more that is removed from the paint work before the washing stage begins the better. Anything that remains on the body can scratch the paint and this is why so many vehicles need correcting. Once the car has been foamed and then rinsed it's then on to the washing stage. Here we use a high quality Lambswool Wash Mitt, this prevents the paint from being scratched. Sponges are generally a no no and can trap dirt that scratches the paint. As well as the mitt being used, a bucket fitted with a Grit Guard is used. This sits in the bottom of a large wash bucket and enables the vehicle to be wiped without reintroducing dirt to the paint. Any dirt that is removed from the paint is then left at the bottom of the bucket, but can't be picked up by the mitt again as it sits at the bottom of the bucket under the Grit Guard. Correct washing technique is the way to preventing damage. We find that it's amazing how many people don't know how to wash a car correctly, maybe its seen as a very simple Sunday afternoon task, no one really likes to be told that they can't do something as simple as ''just wash a car''.
Correcting Is bringing the paint back to how it should look before being damaged by poor washing and contaminants. This is done by mechanical polisher. This removes a fine layer from the vehicle to remove fine scratches and swirls from the paint surface. The paint is measured using a Paint Thickness Gauge to check the amount of paint that can be worked. Swirls in the paint are usually caused by incorrect washing technique. This is what needs working to correct the paint. Look at your paint under Petrol Station lights or bright sun to see the swirls and scratches.
Protecting Is polishing the paint to a nice deep shine using high quality polish and then protecting the paint with a high quality Carnuba Wax. This is an expensive coating that protects the paint from the elements. In its natural state Carnuba wax is as hard as concrete.
